Writing Rules: happyboy:

1. Begin every sentence with a capital letter (My name is Mrs. Carmack).

2. "Kiss" redsmile: each sentence at the end with a period or other punctuation. ( . ? ! )

3. Use only one "and" in a sentence.

4. Put two finger spaces (or use your spacers) between words.

5 Never begin a sentence with "and", "me", "but", or "because".

Editor's Checklist: editor:

1. Is my name and date on my paper?

2. Do all of my sentences begin with a capital letter? (First graders are really great!)

3. Are all my "proper" nouns capitalized?

a) names: Tonya, Abby, Greg, Santa Claus

b) days of the week (Sunday, Monday, etc.)

c) months of the year (January, February, etc.)

d) holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc.)

e) towns, cities, states, countries, and streets (Butlerville, Blanchester, Ohio, United States, Chancellor Lane)

4. Do all my sentences stay on topic?

5. Are my spelling and word wall words spelled correctly?

6. If a question is asked, did I use words from the question in my answer?

7. Did I answer in a complete sentence?
