International Day
international:

Students in Mrs. Belillti's second grade classroom completed a story called "Jalepeno Bagels" about a little boy of Mexican and Jewish descent who had to bring a food to school that depicted his culture - thus the title, "Jalepeno Bagels". Student interest in the story led to a research project

Students selected a country and researched that country's culture. Students then held an International Day where they shared their research. Many of the children dressed in traditional native costumes and brought artifacts depicting that culture. Students also brought in food dishes for classmates to try such as: Baklava, Greek salad, Indian Shakar Para ( a sweet pastry), Spanish Tapas, English toffee scones, Irish potato casserole, and Australian vegemite sandwiches. Austin, who researched the country of Mexico, helped us celebrate his birthday with a pinata.

What a great learning experience!
