This is a very busy time of the year. We have been working hard completing our trimester assessments. I am so proud of all of my students and their progress. Everyone is beginning to read and most of the students are reading the old first grade books. Thank you parents for the extra practice at home. I can really tell the difference! In math, we are subtracting and working with fact families. In science, we have been studying about Earth Day and animals. In social studies, we are learning about maps and the globe.

We have a lot of activities coming up. The Kindergarten students at Butlerville will have a field day on Wed., May 14th from 8:30 to 11:00. The afternoon class should be here that morning to make up for the blizzard day that they missed. We will need about 10 parent volunteers. At 11:15 the morning class will go home and the P.M. class will stay for lunch and have class in the afternoon. The P.M. students can buy lunch here or pack a lunch from home. I will send home a menu choice paper and the cost will be $2.00 which includes a milk.

Our spring carnival is coming up on Friday, May 16th from 5-8. We are in charge of the cake walk booth. I will need parents to help work our booth and I am asking each student to bring in one or two cakes that day. The cakes can be store bought or homemade. This is a fun evening! The kindergarten students will also be collecting cleaning supplies to be auctioned off in baskets at the carnival. You can start sending in the cleaning supplies on May 5th.

On Thursday, May 29th the A.M. class will be participating in the awards assembly around 9:30 and the P.M. class will be in the talent show at 1:00.

Thanks for all your help and support,

Mrs. Metz
