Grading and Reporting to ParentsThe evaluation of each student's progress in school is one of the most difficult and important functions that a teacher faces. Future teaching and expectations of children are based upon the continuous evaluation of progress in school. It is very important that the student, parents, and teacher have realistic expectations concerning achievement in school. In the Little Miami School District we report to parents by using report cards and interim reports. Our report cards are distributed on a twelve-week basis as indicated in the school calendar. Kindergarten and first grade students do not receive letter grades. Second grade students receive letter grades in reading, written language, and math. Children in grades three through six receive letter grades in all academic subjects. The report card indicates the child's performance level, effort, and academic progress. Parents are requested to sign the report card envelope and return it each grading period to confirm receipt and examination. If the box requesting a conference has been checked by the teacher, or if the parent wishes a conference, please call the teacher or send a note at your earliest convenience. The teacher will schedule an appointment with you to discuss your student≠s progress. Interim reports will be issued between the twelve-week periods to all students in grades one through six. Grades listed will be approximate, but give parents an indication of performance through the first half of each period. These reports will require no return procedures and are an effort to keep communication between home and school more consistent. A = 90-100 Excellent
